Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the influence of psychological empowerment (i.e., meaning, competence, self-determination, and impact) on job satisfaction among employees working in educational consultancy firms in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal.

Design/methodology/approach: An explanatory research design was employed, and cross-sectional data were collected from 270 employees using a structured questionnaire administered through a non-probability convenience sampling technique. Data were analysed using SmartPLS 4.0.

Findings: The findings indicate that, among the four dimensions, self-determination and impact exhibit significant positive relationships with job satisfaction, whereas meaning and competence do not demonstrate statistically significant relationships.

Implications: The results of the study indicate that increasing the level of autonomy of employees and emphasising the effects of their actions is necessary for improving job satisfaction among workers in educational consultancy firms. The results can serve as useful recommendations for the management of these firms and help advance research in psychological empowerment in developing countries.

Originality/value: This study extends psychological empowerment literature by offering novel evidence from Nepal’s underexplored educational consultancy sectors.
